Hand Pulled Noodles at Omni Palace Noodle House in North York
A new spot for hand pulled noodles just opened up in the new food plaza on Consumers Road in North York. Omni Palace Noodle House is a chain from China that specializes in Lanzhou beef noodles. A bowl of traditional Lanzhou beef noodles is typically made with a rich beef broth, slices of beef, daikon, springy hand pulled noodles and garnishes like coriander, garlic and chili oil. At Omni Palace, you can watch the noodles being made fresh to order and it’s quite a sight. The chef stretches and pulls a chunk of dough, turning it into ultra thin noodles within seconds. You can select from 9 different thickness styles for the hand pulled noodles, from their thinnest Angel’s Hair noodle to wider flat noodles. They were able to stretch the Angel’s Hair noodle so thin that it could be thread through a needle, which they demonstrated with a real needle!
On their menu, you can find the traditional Lanzhou beef noodles, as well as their spicier braised beef noodles and a bowl of beef noodles with pickled chinese cabbages which was my favourite. Vegetarian noodles are also an option. They also offer a variety of cold appetizer dishes like marinated kelp and thinly sliced spicy beef shank, which pair nicely with their savoury bowls of beef noodles. Omni Palace already has hundreds of locations in China, where noodles are life. Their new Toronto location is a welcome addition for hand pulled noodles in North York.
