Upper Deck by Fran’s
Upper Deck by Fran’s is a new casual spot on top of the Fran’s diner at Yonge and College. It takes up 2 floors, and includes a beautiful all season rooftop patio. They serve a menu of foods that can be described as a modern take on diner fare from classic brunch items to burgers, sandwiches and a $5 shareable snack menu.
I enjoyed a casual dinner with friends on their open air rooftop that has a retractable roof for the drastic changes in weather we experience in Toronto.
Upper Deck also offers a full list of wines, beers, ciders and craft cocktails. We shared a Muskoka Mule cocktail pitcher and JD Rhubarb Lemonade Cocktail Pitcher (Sangria also available in shareable portions) and also tried the College Street Tea cocktail. Love the Canadian inspired cocktail names!
With such a big food menu, we wanted to try a bit of everything. From the $5 menu, we had the Bacon Cheese Bombs, Deep Fried Ravioli, Skinny Dill Pickle Fries and Tenderloin Skewers. At the $5 price, they have 15+ different shareable items that work great as appetizers or drinking snacks. We also devoured a delicious plate of fall off the bone Spicy BBQ Pork Spare Ribs.
If you are a fan of burgers, the Boomtown Burger is a must. This was definitely the main event of our meal and also their signature burger. The Boomtown Burger comes with two AAA beef patties, fried lemon chicken, cheddar, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, red onions, aioli and pickles. It is a huge portion, probably more than enough for 1 meal.
I would also recommend the Chicken and Waffles, that is made with crispy deep fried chicken wings and spicy honey maple syrup.
Our meal was only complete after we enjoyed some of their classic desserts. We got to sample a slice of their pecan pie and the famous red velvet cheesecake. I had a very pleasant experience at Upper Deck by Fran’s and will be back to enjoy the patio again!
